Tally Koren ‘Hallelujah’ released today!

Tally has released the new version of Hallelujah is today! The single follows on from the massive 72 day campaign that I was involved heavily with over last summer.

The single has been re-recorded and produced and now features the choir Vocally Sound, who add a brilliant ambiance to the track and compliment Tally’s vocals beautifully.

The new release also includes the track in Spanish for the very first time, plus a version in Hebrew, a Hip-Hop version with Desire McNeish, who won a competition as part of the 72 day campaign to rap on the track and remixes from Yoad Nevo.

Ellie Lawson promotion on VidZone

As independent label account manager, o ne of the best things about my job is that I get support great indie artists that get in contact with VidZone.

I was recently contacted via Cannonball PR about singer-songwriter Ellie Lawson. I had previously come across Ellie’s work through my internship with Nourishment Digital (now Positively Music), and I became really interested in her as an artist, particularly in the way that she has developed and supported herself independently.

After getting a few of her music videos in I managed to secure a ‘One to Watch’ feature on Ellie, which was put in the main ‘Featured Zone’ on the service and also in the ‘Alternative Zone’.

Hanson at the O2 Indigo

As a crazy teenage fan of Hanson utter was a real dream come true to see finally them live!! Might be crazy I have never seen them, but sadly they never came much to the UK nevermind up North for gigs back in the day. But as they went into the second song of the set ‘Where’s The Love’ it was a good job I was leaning against a barrier as I felt like I was about to pass out I literally could nother believe I was there!

The sound was absolutely incredible, I have never been to that venue before but I don’t think that was just it, you would never have believed that there were only 3 people on stage playing instruments. It completely blew me away, my ears were still ringing ages after leaving the gig which I haven’t experienced in ages!!

With their new stuff in particular I think you can see that they have found their formula and are sticking with it. But these are great pop songs that they are playing so who cares?!

It did make me quite sad the lack of interaction between the band on stage though. I always thought they were very professional as a band and I think this just goes to prove it. Their set is incredibly well rehearsed and their performance as a band was completely airtight.

I’ve since found out that they gave a talk at Oxford University on their move and development to become independent artists. I hope there will be some more info about this that appears online, I’m really interested to hear their thoughts not just as a fan but as a supporter of the Indies!

I’ve managed to get a video playlist in from the band for the VidZone PlayStation service and this should be going live in the next few weeks. Very excited to have been able to support the band in this way and will put up a blog once it’s live.

For a girl who adored that band
the whole gig was incredible, after mamoth two hour set and to have heard ‘Minute Without You’ I don’t think I could have asked for more! Here’s to the 15th anniversary tour next year… I can’t wait!

Dusky promotion on Amazon MP3

I managed to secure excellent promotion for Anjunabeat’s latest release – the debut album ‘Stick By This’ from Dusky.

The album has been promoted on the Amazon (UK) MP3 homepage on the first page of the’New and Notable’ carousel since its release last Monday (17/10/11). This should hopefully have an excellent effect on sales but it’s a great slot for a band’s debut album to have.

Interesting Digital Marketing Campaigns

Below are a few interesting marketing campaigns that I’ve seen in the past few months or so.

One of my favourites was The Kaiser Chiefs ‘Build Your Own Album’ microsite.

This was an amazing way of getting fans directly involved in their new album campaign. Having a selection of brand new tracks, 10 of which could be added to the album plus an array of images for the album cover, fans had complete control. Once a fan had created their album they were encouraged to go on to promote ‘their’ album with Facebook banners etc and for every one sold, that fan got £1 commission! Just a superb way of getting your fans in on the action, and getting them to promote your new music!

Being a Twitter-holic, I loved the premise of The Kooks ‘tweetometer’. By keeping the ‘junkoftheheart’ hashtag trending fans got to hear more and more of the bands new track ‘The Saboteur’. I would love to know the tech behind this as I can’t understand how it really worked! Again this was another great way of getting fans involved and really building a strong buzz about the new album. Obviously it was only Twitter based though, which seemed a bit exclusive for The Kooks demographic, I would have thought Facebook would have been the place to be for them (but how would that work?!)

And, there’s always room for some GaGa! This was really interesting as it was the first major campaign to get launched with Facebook playing a major part. The site has the perfect demographic for GaGa and bam straight away GaGa’s new album was spread around the 45 million Worldwide users of Facebook.

What I love about this campaign is the interactivity that it offered fans, encouraging them to take part in order to download tracks so they could hear them before release. It seemed all a bit too capitalist and exploitative though, as fans were encouraged to purchase Gaga things to keep in their ‘farm’.

Facebook really seems to be coming into fruition with music with David Guetta’s latest album release. Fans can buy his album ‘Nothing But The Beat’ directly from the site plus play an exclusive game created by Bopler. As Eamonn Forde highlighted in Music Week on 18/09/11 this is a great test. It’s going to be really interesting to see if this is employed by more artists. I would be really interested to see what sales were achieved through Facebook.

Obviously these are examples of music megastars but it’s going to be really interesting to see where things go once Facebook launches its ‘official’ music application. If this application really takes off it could really make iTunes nervous! It will be interesting to see how long it is/ whether they do announce a partnership or joint venture.

I have a number of key roles at VidZone Digital Media, which means that I have to be highly organised and methodical in planning my daily workload. I currently negotiate the promotion and marketing of key releases on mobile and digital music stores. The key retailers that I work with include the daily management of the O2 Music Store and also liaising with 3 Mobile, Vodafone, iTunes and Amazon MP3. I have worked hard to build a strong relationship with my contacts at these key retailers and labels and through my well-built relationships there has been a strong increase in the amount of content that has been given good exposure which has resulted in revenue increasing on all platforms. A high level of organisational skills has ensured that a number of big promotions for clients such as Above & Beyond and Ministry of Sound have been supported, successfully set up and executed. This included organising a back catalogue price-drop on all of Above & Beyond’s previous albums the week that their latest album ‘Group Therapy’ was released. Through securing this and also an exclusive additional track for the Amazon MP3 release of the album an ‘Above & Beyond’ titled carousel was added to the ‘Special Deals and Free Songs’ page for the week of release.

I produce a weekly release schedule personalised for all of the key retailers, through this ensuring that all deliveries have been made on time. The creation of individual schedules also ensures that I have a high level of understanding of new releases and in particular key tracks/ albums that should be being promoted. Upon ascertaining this I provide key retailers with promotional emails and I create banners to maximise promotion and exposure.

I have recently started creating sales reports for key independent labels in order to ascertain their current catalogue numbers and what has been delivered and where, researching what is live and going on to organise further deliveries. These reports have enabled the labels and I to understand their current level of sales across different retailers, consider areas for improvement and potential promotions for future key releases.

Above & Beyond ‘Group Therapy’ promotion

At the time of Above & Beyond’s latest album ‘Group Therapy’ was released I managed to secure a number of great promotions for the band. The biggest was the promotion that I secured on Amazon MP3.

I organised a back catalogue price-drop on all of Above & Beyond’s previous albums the week that their latest album ‘Group Therapy’ was released. Through securing this and also an exclusive additional track for the Amazon MP3 release of the album an ‘Above & Beyond’ titled carousel was added to the ‘Special Deals and Free Songs’ page for the week of release.

Alongside this promotion I managed to secure the single which was released just before the album as ‘Video of the Day’ on the VidZone PS3 service, and the band were featured as the ‘Artist Spotlight’ the week of their album release :

Tally Koren 72 Days single campaign

Tally Koren is working towards the release of her new single 72 Names. The campaign will last 72 days, building awareness of the single, Tally’s name and her album (also of the same name).

The campaign will last for 72 days and will look at the significance of the number 72. It will consider the use of the number in all situations of life, modern and historical, artistic and spiritual. Using Tally’s blog and social media channels, Tally’s fans (old and new!) will be involved in the campaign.

There will be new videos posted everyday which will include interviews, ideas and challenges surrounding the number 72 to get people thinking and involved in the build up to the release of the single. Links to these videos will be posted on blogs, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages relating to the particular day’s topics. I will be researching and posting to blog pages.

This is a massive campaign and is going to be a lot of hard-work for everyone involved but I hope it really pays off in the end and we end up with a huge launch event, a hit song and album!
